Spieth Unwinds Post‑U.S. Open with a Few Beers at Buffalo Wild Wings
After a challenging week at Pinehurst for the U.S. Open, three-time major winner Jordan Spieth took a well-earned break — and he did so in refreshingly down-to-earth fashion. “I had a few beers Sunday, just hung out with (caddie Michael Greller) at Buffalo Wild Wings for a while,” Spieth said with a smile during his pre-tournament media availability. “It was nice to unwind a bit after a tough week.”
Spieth, 31, carded a mixed performance at the U.S. Open, finishing outside the top contenders but showing flashes of his world-class shotmaking. The Texas native — known for his thoughtful, honest interviews — admitted the grind of major championship golf can be mentally exhausting, and that stepping away, even briefly, helps reset the mind.
“There are times when you just need to be a regular person for a bit,” Spieth said. “Grab a beer, watch some sports, and not think about golf.”
His candid comments have further endeared him to fans, many of whom appreciate the relatable side of a player who’s been in the spotlight since his breakout Masters win in 2015.
Now turning his focus to the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands — an event he memorably won in 2017 with a dramatic bunker hole-out — Spieth is hoping a little downtime will pay dividends on the course this week.
“I feel refreshed, and I love playing here,” he said. “Hopefully, a good week ahead.”
