Henderson’s Triumphant Return to Sahalee Country Club

In June 2024, Brooke Henderson made an emotional return to Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Washington, the site of her first major victory at the 2016 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Eight years after her playoff win over Lydia Ko, Henderson walked the familiar fairways with a sense of nostalgia and renewed purpose.

“This place will always hold a very special place in my heart,” Henderson reflected during a press conference ahead of the tournament. “I think back to eight years ago, and a lot of those moments, they’ll be in my mind forever. Just such great feelings.”

The 2024 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship marked Henderson’s first return to Sahalee since her 2016 victory. The club honored her with a commemorative plaque at the 18th fairway, where she had hit a decisive 7-iron shot during the playoff, and granted her honorary membership.

Reflecting on the course, Henderson noted, “I love the huge, towering trees… it’s almost majestic. Feels very peaceful and amazing – but at the same time, a little bit stressful, because you have to hit it so straight.”

Despite the challenges, Henderson approached the tournament with optimism, aiming to recreate the magic of her past success. While she did not secure a win, her return to Sahalee was a poignant reminder of her journey and the milestones achieved along the way.

As Henderson continues her career, the memories of Sahalee serve as both inspiration and testament to her enduring impact on the sport.
