Nelly Korda Doesn’t Defend Chevron Title, But Doesn’t Leave Empty-Handed
THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Nelly Korda’s bid to defend her Chevron Championship title fell short this year, but the world No. 1 didn’t walk away from Carlton Woods empty-handed — or without reaffirming her dominance on the LPGA Tour.
Coming into the Chevron as the reigning champion and riding an extraordinary wave of form, Korda had won five consecutive tournaments, a feat that placed her in rare company in the history of women’s golf. Many eyes were on her as she teed off at the first major of the year, and expectations were sky-high for the 25-year-old American to extend her win streak to six and retain her title.
Despite a solid start and moments of brilliance throughout the week, Korda couldn’t quite summon the magic that carried her to victory in 2024. A couple of uncharacteristic mistakes and a surging leaderboard made for a tough weekend, and Korda ultimately finished outside the top spot. But even without a trophy in hand, she still managed to make headlines — and history.
Korda’s T14 finish was enough to secure valuable ranking points, helping her maintain her position at the top of the Rolex Rankings. She also walked away with one of the tournament’s largest appearance-based bonuses and the admiration of fans who witnessed one of the most dominant stretches in recent LPGA history. More importantly, her professionalism and grace in defeat only reinforced her status as a class act both on and off the course.
“I gave it my all this week,” Korda said after her final round. “Of course, I wanted to defend my title, but it wasn’t my week. Still, I’m proud of the way I fought, and I know there’s more to come.”
While the Chevron crown may have found a new head this year, Korda’s place at the pinnacle of women’s golf remains firmly intact. With the season far from over, she’ll have plenty more opportunities to add to her already stellar resume — and perhaps start a new winning streak.
