Carlos Alcaraz has publicly addressed the recent letter sent to Grand Slam organizers, co-signed by himself, Iga Swiatek, and other top tennis players, advocating for increased prize money and a fairer distribution of tournament revenues.
Speaking after his victory at the 2025 Monte-Carlo Masters, Alcaraz acknowledged that while tennis is a well-compensated sport, there remains room for improvement in how revenues are shared. He emphasized that players, as the main attraction for fans, deserve a fair percentage of the earnings generated by the sport.
“Tennis is a well-paid sport, but it can always be improved because there is a percentage that can be increased for the circuit and the players,” Alcaraz stated. “If we put on a show so the fans can enjoy it and pay to see us, then the percentage has to be close to what we deserve. And that’s why we’ve come together.”
The letter, also signed by notable players such as Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, Aryna Sabalenka, and Coco Gauff, calls for a reassessment of prize money distribution at the Grand Slam tournaments. The players argue that their contributions to the sport’s popularity and revenue generation warrant a more equitable share of the profits.
Iga Swiatek, addressing the issue ahead of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, confirmed ongoing discussions with Grand Slam organizers but refrained from providing detailed comments, suggesting that the matter requires internal resolution before public disclosure.
Novak Djokovic, another signatory of the letter, expressed hope that the Grand Slam events would engage in constructive dialogue with players regarding revenue sharing and other significant decisions affecting the sport. He highlighted the importance of players having a seat at the table when major changes are considered.
