British tennis star Andy Murray, who held the ATP world No. 1 ranking for 41 consecutive weeks during his illustrious career, has been surpassed by Italy’s Jannik Sinner. Despite currently serving a three-month suspension due to a doping violation, Sinner has maintained his position atop the ATP rankings and has now recorded 42 consecutive weeks as world No. 1, moving past Murray’s previous mark.

Sinner’s suspension stems from a positive test for the banned substance clostebol in March of the previous year. Initially cleared by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), the case was later appealed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). In February, an agreement was reached resulting in Sinner accepting a three-month ban.

Remarkably, during his suspension, Sinner has retained the No. 1 ranking due to the performance of his closest rivals. His last competitive appearance was at the Australian Open, where he secured his second consecutive title by defeating Germany’s Alexander Zverev in straight sets.
