Novak Djokovic Praises Andy Murray’s Coaching Impact Ahead of Indian Wells
In a recent press conference, tennis legend Novak Djokovic lauded his coach, Andy Murray, for elevating his game to new heights since their partnership began. Djokovic, who clinched the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, credits Murray’s coaching for his improved performance as he prepares for the upcoming Indian Wells tournament.
The collaboration between Djokovic and Murray commenced in November 2024, following Djokovic’s triumph at the Olympics. Under Murray’s guidance, Djokovic reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open, showcasing a resurgence in form. Reflecting on their partnership, Djokovic expressed his satisfaction, stating, “I feel like we had a great tournament in Australia, and I liked the way I played.” He further emphasized that he has been playing his best tennis since the Olympics, attributing this success to the work done with Murray.
Murray’s transition from rival to coach has been seamless, with Djokovic highlighting the unique perspective Murray brings. “He has a unique perspective on my game – he has played me, he has played all the current best players in the world in my opponents,” Djokovic noted. This insight has been instrumental in refining Djokovic’s strategies and performance on the court.
As Djokovic sets his sights on the ‘Sunshine Double’—the Indian Wells and Miami Open tournaments—he remains optimistic about his form and fitness. Having recovered from a hamstring injury that forced him to withdraw from the Australian Open semi-finals, Djokovic is eager to compete at Indian Wells for the first time since 2019. He acknowledged his past challenges at the tournament but expressed confidence in his preparation, stating, “I haven’t done really well in Indian Wells and Miami ever since 2016 or ’17… But I definitely look to go deep in the tournament.”
The tennis community has also recognized the potential of the Djokovic-Murray partnership. Former player Janko Tipsarevic described Murray as “the best possible” coach Djokovic could have appointed, emphasizing that Murray brings the “full package” to the role.
